Paper Abstract:      Issues related to ubiquitous computing are relevant topics for the development of services typical of future Information Societies (e.g. eGovernment, eBusiness, eHealth). The concept of space is especially significant in a scenario characterized by a number of computational elements roaming in the environment, and interacting according to their position. Infrastructures, systems and applications supporting this kind of wireless communication, and providing relevant services, must consider and model spatial features, which are often key factors in user’s context. This paper presents two different approaches to the representation and management of spatial context: ST logic and Multilayered Multi Agent Situated System. The first one provides a model for reasoning about propositions and facts with reference to specific spatial-temporal regions (i.e. portions of space and time in which the propositions are evaluated). The second defines a formal and computational framework for the design of systems made up of autonomous entities placed in an environment, that must be explicitly represented and that influences agent interactions and behaviour.
