Paper Abstract:
|
Systems development can virtually be considered from two perspectives: technology-centred approach and humancentred
approach. A technology-centred approach to systems development is largely driven by technological artefacts
from system analysis to development. As apposed to technology centred, a human-centred approach considers
practitioners and people as prime drivers and technology as a primitive in system development process. This paper
presents a human-centred framework for developing information systems. The framework was built based on the three
human-centred criteria (i.e. problem-driven, activity-centred, and context bond) as well as the combination of the
enabling theories drawn from the fields like philosophy (semiotic theory), cognitive science (distributed cognitive),
psychology (activity theory), and work-place theory (work-oriented design). A running example of developing an order
processing system is used to illustrate the realisation of the component concepts of the framework. |
