Paper Abstract:      Stroke damages a patient’s ability to perform activities of daily living (ADL), and training stroke patients to perform ADLs enhances their confidence in routine life. This paper presents an augmented reality-assisted rehabilitation system to train the upper-extremity of stroke patients. This system involves two ADL exercises that simulate actions of drawing water from faucets and arranging a bookcase. Each exercise involves manipulating virtual models of objects in ADLs before moving on to training with real objects. The virtual objects are utilized to motivate patients, and the real objects can help patients to regain muscle strength. To evaluate a patient’s performance, a scoring system is developed using data collected from these two exercises.
